About Pride in Place Funding
I was thrilled to announce a £20 million investment into Thamesmead Birchmere Park as part of the Government’s Pride in Place programme. As the local Member of Parliament for Erith and Thamesmead, I was delighted when I found out that Thamesmead Birchmere Park had been chosen for this investment which will make a real difference to our community after years of being overlooked.
Residents know their area better than anyone else. I know they are full of ideas of how they can improve their community. I see this every week in my role as your MP. But what the community needs is the political backing and clear commitment to long term funding to make this happen.
I am therefore pleased that an investment of £2 million a year, for the next ten years, is planned, which will allow us to bring about real and long-lasting change in the area and put Thamesmead Birchmere Park on the path to reaching its full potential.
Significantly, this investment is about giving power to the community. The views of residents must design the way this money is spent. My job as your MP does not end with securing the funding, I will also play a key role in guaranteeing the money is spent wisely, transparently, and in line with your priorities. I will work with the council, community groups, and local people every step of the way to see that happen.
So, the question is what do you think the money should go towards? I’ve launched a survey to capture the ideas of local residents; you can fill it out here or click the button below.
This is your chance to think about how we can shape the future of Thamesmead Birchmere Park for the better. I look forward to working with you to make the most of this investment.
